@TimeBandit Still, if smartphones and earphones were invented today, do you think we'd put a dedicated jack just for them? No, we'd probably reuse USB-C.
So that's a good enough reason to remove it IMO.

No, we'd probably
reuse USB-Cuse some proprietary connection with built-in DRM and charge royalties to use it.This is the only way that argument is sound.
Filed under: DRM not protecting the audio, but protecting the device from "unauthorized" accessories.

LG V20
Seems to be a pretty nice phone, I've considered V10 for quite a while.
If only it were a bit bigger, my previous phone also was 5.7'' and for a while I had to use 4.7'' iPhone which for me felt uncomfortably tiny.
Large hands you've got.
Based on all the complaints about "mobile", I'd tend to agree.

I'm digital-fluid. I can be a 1 or a 0, depending on how I identify that day.
Some days I'm a 2.

We could use Bluetooth, not some proprietary crap that is basically a modified Bluetooth stack.
I still prefer analog earphones because they never run out of batteries before the phone

they eventually stop issuing updates for old phones
Like ones that are not really all that old? (S5, Nexus5, One M8) (That's chipset support, btw)

LG tends to continue providing updates for their flagship lines for about 2 years. The G3 was released in 2014 with Android 4.4 KitKat, but received updates to both Lollipop and Marshmallow. The G4 was released with 5.1 Lollipop in 2015, got the update to Marshmallow, and is fully expected to get the update to Nougat.
When it comes to a track record for supporting phones, LG looks pretty good.

I've been Motorola for my last two phones (moto G 1st generation is on the latest OS, as is my Moto X play) but I like the look of LGs and might well have one when its time to upgrade.

@Jaloopa When I switched to LG from my HTC and my wife's Samsung, Motorola was my next choice. If I hadn't been happy with LG, I was going to try them next. But so far, I haven't had a reason to leave LG.

The time to buy Motorola phones is past now, IMO. They don't provide Android updates like they used to and the new models make some super awful tradeoffs. (They managed to beat Apple to get a phone to market without the headphone jack so that it would be thin enough to stick a projector module on the back )

I wouldn't mind having it as an external module, but yeah, that sounds kinda lame...

Yeah, GoogleMoto was good. LenovoMoto.... eeeeehhhhhhhh.... I wanna like them. But I don't think I do...

@anonymous234 if smartphones and headphones were invented today you'd be able to listen to them while charging

Are you sure? Because LG hasn't made public yet which phones will be getting Nougat. Even then, the G3, S5, and the like are two versions old now. It was released two and a half years ago. Sure, odds are that the G3 won't be getting it, but the fact that it got two major OS updates is pretty good for a phone of its age.
