What the cat
-
k.. I know having security against bots is important, but..
isn't this taking it a bit too far?
-
Read the title and my first thought was of the TABLE_CAT tag. And yes, that is a bit too far, possibly easily broken.
-
That actually looks pretty clever. It's too bad it's so difficult to tell exactly which animals are cats. It's also too bad the font is so crisp compared to the animals. Nice concept, though.
-
I saw this on rapidshare today too. It looks like a cross between the CAPTCHA and KittenAuth.

Captcha-the-kitten? :)

This came out a while ago... but is still my all time favorite CAPTCHA implementation

This could be potentially offensive. Especially to ugly people.

not to mention inaccurate, every time I get redirected to 'hot or not' I make sure of voting everyone '1', except for the real ugly people, I vote them '10'

Imagine having your own picture show up on one of those things, and having to choose three pictures that *aren't* your own...

Or potentially a big distraction. I don't want to have to stop and fap over the hotties just so I can post a comment in someone's blog.

I find ugly people to be offensive.

That explains the mask then.

Its broken. the cat is identical in all letters. You can have an image recognition software that figures that part out. Had the dog looked very similar just a bit different it would fool the bot, but the bot can very easily tell em appart if the recognition software is made.
The idea is that maybe not so many sites use this sort of technique.
-
Frankly, this looks easier for a computer to decipher than a person. I think the best advice I've ever heard about designing captchas based on obfuscating images is "if you're not a computer vision expert, don't bother".

Yup, I started wearing it for the +50% mana regeneration rate, but then ppl started to tell me it looked way cooler than my face, so I just let it on.

This is Crapidshare we're talking about. The point isn't to block bots, it's to be annoying.

Exactly. Anyone who has tried to use this knows that you get the CAPTCHA wrong half the time and end up having to try again.

It's sad that CAPTCHAs have gotten so complex that the only thing with any hope of getting them right is custom software.@lolwtf said:

This is actually a bad captcha.
All cat pictures are the same (tail in same position, face the same), the cat is just rotated.
The letters can be easily ocr'ed, thus removed from the screen, leaving only the animals visible, so you can detect which one is a cat or not.
All letters and cats are separated so it's even easier.
Recaptcha is much better than this...

No it's actually brilliant, every time you get it wrong they get more ad views, catching!

CATS: You are on the way to destruction.
