Spam -- A collaborative online novel
-
Hey everybody out there,
I wanted to let you know about a project to create a web-based, collaborative novel a few of my best friends and I are doing.
It's called Spam, and, as the name suggests, it's a story about posting spam to internet forums. Through a voting and rating process, authors from around the world (amateurs & pros alike) can add their own touch, shaping the plot chapter-by-chapter.
Here's how it works: The story is divided into 25 Chapters, and, further, each Chapter is divided into the so-called submission and voting periods. During the submission period, authors submit candidates for the current chapter. Then, in the voting period, people vote for the best one, which becomes incorporated in the novel. The process is then repeated for the next chapter.
The content of the novel is entirely left to the authors. The only requirements are that the story begins with an ordinary event (in Chapter 1), and by Chapter 25 the world comes to an end. The objective is to create the avalanche-like story in between via the collaborative action of users of the web.
We're currently in the voting period for Chapter 2, and I was hoping you'd be interested in checking out our project at http://www.worsethanfailure.com!
Cheers,Moderator's note: URLs and details modified, so at least the spam doesn't work anymore. Didn't want to remove the following discussion.

Re: EndOfThisWorld -- A collaborative online novel
Spam? Not spam? No idea.
I hope it begins like this...
In the beginning was the word, and the word was with Paula, and the word was brillant.
-
And Paula said Let there be lght! and it stayed dark. And Paula saw that it was brillant.

...
The angel said to me, "These words are trustworthy and FileNotFound".

And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it
were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a table; and a paper was placed unto it: and he went forth photographing it, and to place it on websites.
And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should securely mediate, by design: and there was given unto him frames.
And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a neural network in his hand.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, The pig go. Go is to the fountain. The pig put foot. Grunt. Foot in what? ketchup.
And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was SpectateSwamp, and Hell followed with him.

Spectacular, bstorer! applauds

Ohhh I get it... this is like the flowers thread....

EndOfThisWorld - SpectateSwamp will put a stop to it.

Don't worry about the End of the World. SpectateSwamp will be there to put a stop to it. Just like in 1986.

Uh oh. He figured out how to leave the Sidebar.

OK, (with much trepidation), I'll bite. What miracle did you achieve in 1986? But please don't expect me to watch any crappy videos.
-
Maybe he is going to 'convert' the makers of the online novel? I am pretty sure it could only result in them going insane or suicide... but either way that novel is stopped....
Now for some more bombing:

Having now had a chance to fully examine these articles I find that words fail me. It's like, every joke theory has been both confirmed and blown out of the water. I have so, so many questions, but now I'm really terrified of the answers. So I'll just ask this one: what the fuck stories did these newspapers turn down if this crap made it in? Were there no cats stuck in trees or equally important things to report instead of this?
The problem here clearly extends beyond SS. Does anybody have any objection to nuking all of western Canada from space? It's the only way to be sure.

Right. Is there anyone who still thinks Spectate is a normal "Internet troll"? I'm pretty sure he did not behave this way in 1986 in anticipation of the Internet, so he could annoy some forum members in 2008.
Internet trolls normally do not identify themselves, post pics, videos, and newspaper articles of themselves and spend years (even decades) perpetuating "practical jokes". No, Spectate's mental issues are all-too frighteningly real.
(I guess we now know what he meant when he said: They laughed even louder in 1986 - then they stopped laughing.)

This has got to be the single, most definitive proof of the long term effects of Marijuana.
Holy shit.
Please tell me there was a lot of LSD abuse as well.... at least that would help me understand.

Anyone in the area know of a string of missing persons in the area just over 2 decades ago?
From my point of view, I have never before been so glad that the Atlantic Ocean exists. Thanks to it, I can now still just about sleep at night.

So I take it you won't be stopping by the SwampShack to learn SSDS any time soon?

Let's look at the bright side of this. For example, we now know some interesting facts about Swampy:
- He was born in 1949;
- Worked at Weyerhaeuser from 1994-2000 (I can guess why he was fired);
- Smoked cannabis for at least 30 years (propably more than 38 years by now).
- Has tremendous magik powerz!!
But most importantly, we now have some excellent pictures of him for memorabilia making!

Now, if only someone would restore and recolor them...

Not quite Spectre
- He was born in 1949; -- 1948 July 26
- Worked at Weyerhaeuser from 1994-2000 (I can guess why he was fired); - Fired and they payed for it. Their Digester plugged up and staff attributed it to the firing. (Down a month?)
- Smoked cannabis for at least 30 years (propably more than 38 years by now). -- On occasion The one medicine stone is a natural pipe. For the Highest ceremonies only.
- Has tremendous magik powerz!! -- The Stones are the power.
The firing put me even. In 1974 I went for a job interview in the Comptrollers Dept at Canadian Utilities. Grant Cook interviewed me. Asking if I drank much. I said probably more than I should. Then he asked me if I had ever smoked pot. I said I tried it a couple times. I got the Job. The other 2 interviewies didn't drink or smoke. Grant (now deceased) didn't have any contacts and was a worse drunk than me. We got along fine.

Spectate, you should read this essay (if you can). Basically, it says that magical thinking arises out of a narcissitic desire to be God.

Someone would have to be:
a) drunk
b) deceased
To get along with you anyway.

My friend who works in police computer forensics was able to restore this one at least.
Interestingly, apparently the "original" had actually been doctored, but thanks to CSIesque computer wizardry, the original article text has been restored.

His hobbies are pretty varied at least.

I was explaining to my Lawyer friend (I only have the 1) about how the Stones choose the Medicine Man. He said "obviously they got the right guy"

There, fixed it. Also, I corrected his birthday. Lazy FBI, making me do their work for them.

I believe I was one of the first people to assert that Swampy was ACTUALLY mental... I claim my prize!
I hope it's a magic stone...
