$11.14 - $10.89 = $0.25 (fixed) isn't immediately obvious. I have to think about it for a few seconds.
Took me 1 and a half minutes with the help of knowing the answer. If the numbers where not written down next to each...
TRWTF is that people actually use Crapidshare.
What do you suggest. Not like it's better/worse than other upload services out there... And I don't have a dedicated server waiting for me at my hosting provider...
[quote...

  • Re: MSDN Magazine Homepage PHPSESSID WTF
Let's say there are 100 incoming links to MSDN Magazine Homepage with anchor texts "msdn magazine" and let 10 of these come from those crappy forum software with PHPSESSID appended to them. If Google is so intelligent, it will not promote those 10 links...
Much better than non-atomic disk operations, that's for sure.
On *nix, opening a file with O_CREAT|O_EXCL is an atomic operation that will succeed if the file doesn't exist, or return an error code if the file exists. I presume that since Windows supports...

MSDN documentation
Thanks for the link!
You're not familiar with MSDN, are you? They reorganize it at random, and every time they do, most of the links to it stop working. Your best bet is to do a Google...

  • Windows WTF

Just found this while reading the MSDN documentation on the IsThemeActive() function:
Remarks: Do not call this function during DllMain or global objects contructors. This may cause invalid return values in Windows Vista and may cause Microsoft Windows XP to become unstable.
• Re: Washington, DC traffic patterns

Suddenly, I'm quite appreciative of Spokane's sensible road layout. Everything except Northwest Boulevard and the freeway are on a north-south, east-west grid. Yes, there are one-way streets, but they're always paired so you can treat them as a single road with an extra-wide median.

  • Re: The BBC's wooden table
I'm sorry, but there are very good journalistic reasons for doing the wooden table stunt in this case. If you lifted the flash film directly, or if you lifted a competitors transmission directly, you would be in violation of copyright laws. If, OTOH, you were filming...

If it were up to me, there'd be no edit ability at all and people might actually stop to think before they posted.
A better system would force people to use preview by only having the post button showup on the preview...
