• Re: So apparently you can now get these...
This is my biggest problem with Christianity; while most languages have the convention of "signed by default, unsigned requires declaration", ie, short vs unsigned short, apparently they have unsigned as default, and signed requires declaration. It's all the little gotchas that make coding ...

  • Re: Are FAQs Non-Perishable?
One of the departments in our organization just contacted IT with this request (slightly paraphrased to keep my job):We have received a complaint that...
Are your departments that responsive when someone complains about content on the site being wrong? If so, then I'd say this is a minor WTF ...

  • Re: More useless error messages
Sounds like a cat or dog with all that fur.
Given that the music plays only when power or heat is outside of tolerance, it probably does sound like a furry cat or dog. TRWTF: If the music is being played by BIOS, why does the problem apply to Windows 95/98/2000/NT4 but not other versions of ...
I'm not bashing the interns. This is how everyone on the team communcates. They've just picked it up from the permanent programmers.
At least they talk to each other. Where I work (all permanents or contractors, no interns) it would have gone something like:
Intern Programmer 2 to self: ...

  • Re: Assault WTF
If I walk through South Central L.A. with a Confederate flag t-shirt (or maybe a SF Giants hat, these days), the dudes who beat me senseless are responsible for their actions, but I was doing something really dumb to put myself into the situation. That's not a direct analogy, and they might have beaten me even ...

  • Re: Government Shutdown
Quite a substantial proportion of the Fed employees are the military; firing lots of them at once is unlikely to end well. Failing to pay the army has been the downfall of many a government in many countries over the past few thousand years; there's no reason to expect things to be any different this time either. ...
... and I honestly don't know what to feel about it. The Geocities layout. Random fonts size, face and underlines. The wall-of-links.
(Which is the reason we'll probably use it forever: Over the last two years we've spent so much time aquiring knowledge of the inner workings of the framework that it would be wasteful not to use it.)
Great, more people that don't understand sunk costs. Keeping the framework is sensible if ...

Wow, just wow. Did no-one involved realise that anyone with that skillset wouldn't need to apply for jobs, they receive requests from people humble supplicants to come and work for them?

  • Re: Spaghetti UML

My browser managed to open the PDF, but crashed when I tried to go to page two. Funny, I don't remember reading that Firefox had implemented peril-sensitive sunglasses, but based on what I saw on page 1 it seems like a logical conclusion.
