For some sufficiently small values of "90"...

From a recent press release (emphasis mine):
    ...

Why is the Videotron news service being eliminated?

Newsgroups, established in the early 90's, had the purpose of allowing Internet users to discuss and exchange ideas on various subjects.

    ...

Oh yeah. Because 1979 is "the early 90's". Nice.

Usenet?  Oh, you mean Google Groups.  You must be using an archaic pronunciation.

You're sarcastic, but TRWTF is really that people believe GoogleGroups == newsgroups.

No, everyone knows it was actually first called Deja News.  Google only bought all the newsgroups afterward.

... while I wasn't involved on Usenet until the mid-90's, I remember BBS's, and FidoNet, and all the other local equivalents.  Fun times.  I miss Usenet.
