On my email this morning there was something called candy I hit it and
something or other about JFK Jr. came up and then a bunch of porn.????

I was finally able to Delete it.

    --end--

Well, thank you *very* much for sharing that with me, the president, the operations folks, the entire company! I am so happy that you were finally able to Delete it!

I wonder what is this lady signing up for to be getting this crap? Perhaps some logfile verification is in order for this user...

Oh, and we continuously run blurbs on email procedure and etiquette, including warnings like "DO NOT USE YOUR COMPANY EMAIL ADDRESS TO SIGN UP FOR ANY WEB SITE AND/OR SERVICE" - they never learn.

Because the only reason you ever get spam is because you give away your address. And surely it has nothing to do with scattershot spamming techniques.

lol. I like how when employees email or forward something to the entire IS dept if it relates to us in any concievable... Yet, not realizing that their attempt to deflect work onto someone else really just emailed about 20 people, all of which have nothing to do with said responsiblity.

We left that sort of thing behind long ago. We have now moved on to amusing incidents like the one happened a month or so ago in which an employee sent a message flagged IMPORTANT to the entire organization — around 2000 users, including the uberboss and his cabinet — asking if anyone would like to purchase the two spare tickets he had for an upcoming Avril Lavigne show.

My favorite one was when a middle manager was sent a spreadsheet from accounting with a long list of people who had not submitted their expense accounts for a long time (as in $10,000-$20,000 range per person for some people). The manager was supposed to work with the supervisors of the delinquent people and get them to do their work. But rather than do one-on-one consultations, the manager simply had the spreadsheet blasted out on a company wide mailing list which was quite large (think of a company that brings good things to life). I was at my desk when this email came through and was happily pouring over the attached spreadsheet seeing who owed how much, and was amused to see that top of the list was a site manager I knew who was renowned for not doing paperwork. A short time later a second email came through politely asking everyone to delete the spreadsheet if they had already open the email.

I'll do you one better... one time our group received an expense report with category rollups for each person in the group. So we could see not just how much a person was spending in a month, we could see how much each person was spending in each category: hotel, food, rental car, flights, etc

I don't quite understand why anyone would care.

I could post my last expense report here, would that get you all excited?

I mean, maybe if they were listing details of all the hookers they were using on it...

I agree, post it and you will find out.

I'm sure people were amused that some people had larger expense accounts than others. Or maybe some people would get new ideas on what they shoudl've been expensing the entire time to suck every dime out of the country.

How come Jim gets the expensive rental car and I have to take a bus?

Ok, Here is my first day from my last trip:

    Dinner     40.00
    Entertainment
    Tips
    * Lodging
    * Travel Fare
    Parking & Tolls     18.00
    Telephone
    Mileage @ $.485     48.50
    Laundry & Valet
    Other (explain)
    Gas For Rental
    Rental Car     239.16
      Total Cash     350.66

Now, explain to me how this tells you anything about how much I am allowed to spend. I don't know about anyone else, but I have no limit, whatever I spend on business, I get back. That is the idea. Anything less would be ridiculous.

I'd say the more troubling part of that would be if anybody did a reply to all and announced pblically that they actually wanted to see Avril.

I really hope thats an old report because mileage hasn't been that since 2007, and currently it's 58.5. Although I have dealt with a client who did not allow its own employees to claim back the full federal rate.

But mileage *and* rental car? Either you drove 100 miles to pick up your rental car, or you double dipped.

I'd think it was a round-trip, with an "unlimited mileage" rental car, which would explain that invoice. Even if it were a one-way trip, there are rental plans with "different drop-off" points.

We do have a limit, and last time I went away for work, was the first time in 5 years and I didn't claim anything becuase the thought of filling in all the paperwork wasn't worth the £13 I had spent on dinner.

You're the only "stupid" one I see here on this thread.   I bet that was actually a current report, but being the idiot you are, you let your company screw you out of tons of $$$ by reimbursing you at a lower rate!

In the context of the US, mileage is an IRS granted deduction for distance driven on a car that you own or lease. It is meant to cover operational costs including wear, tear and depreciation. It has nothing to do with the payment made to the rental company. The cost of the rental itself pays for the operation costs of the car as experienced by the rental company. So you can't claim mileage against a rental - that way lies tax fraud.

I guess I need to clue you in, since you are off in space as usual.

The mileage is for driving back and forth to the airport, and the rental is what I needed to drive when I arrived at my destination.

How anyone could not figure this out on their own is simply beyond me. Common sense and logic don't always prevail around here I guess.

When you're submitting it for reimbursement, you're welcome to claim anything you want. Whether the company will accept it is a matter of your agreement with them. It's an expense report, not a 1040.

oh boy oh boy, never seen one of those before...

Well someone has to do the nitpicking: you're screwing yourself for 20 bucks, or there's something about this bill you're not telling us... Numbers seem to add up to 370.66...
