    Unfortunate promotion expiration

I joined goozex.com today (April 2, 2008), a video game trading site that offers free trade credit points for referrals.  I promptly posted my referral link on my favorite gaming forum, and soon received the following email:

    Thanks for referring your friends!

    Dear Chris,

Thank you for inviting your friend, James, who joined Goozex today. You will receive 1 free trade credit and 100 Goozex points once your friend completes their first trade (promotion ends March 31, 2008).

Never pay for a trade again by referring friends!

To help you there is a custom referral link tied to your account that you can post anywhere on the web. Those who use this link to join Goozex can earn you free bonuses. Just copy the following link to your web-pages or signatures:
    http://www.goozex.com/trading/asp/join.asp?idr=558437176328

    Thank you and keep referring!

    Goozex

Apparently I should still be sure to use my custom link so I can continue to earn more expired points!

Don't worry.  They actually mean the deal expires on March 31, 12008.  They are just using software that stores the date as four digits.  That Y10K problem is going to be a bitch.

Don't be ridiculous.  Why would you use 5 decimal digits to store the year portion of the date?  Obviously it's stored in hex and somebody forgot to convert it, so the points will be good until April 1, 8200.

Are you suggesting that there's a better storage solution for numbers than BCD?!  Blasphemer!

You actually plonked down money on this guy?

Although I'm certainly not saying it isn't worth it...

Let's see. First post, posting about a buggy "custom referral link" and including the link...

Yeah, I wondered if anyone would think my post was just trolling for referrals.. but of course according to their site the referrals don't actually work anymore so the point is moot. =)

What? The blatant abuse of domains?

I am aware. I don't have much time to spend on the site yet. The page simply hasn't been made yet. If you type something up I would be happy to stick it on a page and make it right.
