It doesn't sit right with me, and I usually respond by cryptically poking fun at it, which just confuses people. IRL, I mean. I hope I'm not becoming a Swampy.

Beat me to it :( I was just gonna say that 'local alien' is an oxymoron, but you did a much better job.
Now I'm trying to figure out if Spectate is intended as a noun, a verb, or as an adjective.
It was 5.30am when I posted, and I'd just woken up. I am amazed I was coherent.
...But then again, raping of the English language without a legit reason bugs the hell out of me. And I couldnt figure out which he meant it as.
Concerning the origin of "Spectate Swamp", Swampy has mentioned it came to him in a dream: http://forums.thedailywtf.com/forums/p/7593/144779.aspx#144779 In the dream. Somebody said "The Guys down at Spectate Swamp really
know what is going on" So I wanted to be part of that group. Why not So I guess he is either using "spectate" as a noun ("noun-as-adjective" or proper name) or an adjective. Of course, "spectate" is neither of those things, naturally.

Yes, I read that. I'm trying to understnad what it actually means though. Perhaps it's a swamp that watches people? Maybe that's where the aliens come from? Like, it's an interdimensional portal.
Ban FB and bring back MPS - he had a much cooler username! Legendary Threadlolwtf: Instead of comfy chair, package contained bobcat. It actually be interpreted both ways. "For millennia, the Humankind had been watching the Swamp; now, the Swamp was watching the Humankind"?
I'm not really the right person to criticise Swampy's choice of nickname, as everyone pokes fun at my choice of one (and my real name too). I think Swampy's choice was... well, at least it was an interesting way of choosing the name. Taking fascinating-sounding names from dreams has long and glorious traditions, unlike my method of "what the hell, let's just use this one". =)

That last great 175mb alien video just doesn't want to work properly on archive.org. Maybe there was a tattle tail or two warning them about the misuse? I'll have to find another place to put the original videos. Anyway the 92 jpg pictures of the tiny flyer hooking up with the Cloaked object are at:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/25854404@N05/
Play them at high speed using SSDS and you'll see the sneaky sneaks.
A greater alien videoer I never knew. What a camera guy. Who has more Aliens. Just think if everybody started hunting aliens. We would probably wipe them out. Then again forget the hunt stuff.
On repeat keys. The 3 fastest keys in data entry are "j" "k" "l" use them. People will appreciate it.

I would blame you rather than the video. SpectateSwamp:Maybe there was a tattle tail or two warning them about the misuse?
They are probably astute enough to spot the misuse themselves. SpectateSwamp:Play them at high speed using SSDS and you'll see the sneaky sneaks.
If they are meant to be played at high speed why notuse a video? If they are meant to be seen as a series of individual frames use photos. You seem to love doing everything the wrong way round and causing extra work and effort. SpectateSwamp:On repeat keys. The 3 fastest keys in data entry are "j" "k" "l" use them. People will appreciate it.
You are the only person who uses repeat keys like this. Most of us just use sensible keystrokes or type at an acceptable rate anyway.

I can't make up my mind on whether or not Spectate is the best or worst conspiracy theorist ever, but he certainly can spin everything into Potentially Someone Else's Problem, And If Not, Controversy Must Be Preached.
However, take heed, Swampy... the ordinary people will probably remember the Golden Rule of Posting Video Online: Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by bugs in ffmpeg.
Archive.org is not an easy site to comprehend, even for people with perfectly ordinary, or even extraordinary, mental faculties. If your video doesn't work, it's entirely possible that they screwed up (they have plenty of hideously complicated automated processes), or you screwed up (or failed to limit the damage by fixing up your mistakes). The video derivation can be damn slow, and it doesn't work if the files you uploaded are incorrectly identified. (And if you don't know what "derivation" means in context of arhive.org, hoo boy, aren't you in for a surprise...)
For example, it took me hours to get my short video up there. Archive.org identified the file as Vorbis and I had to manually set it to Theora. The queued ops took hell of a long time...
[And by the way, OS X users - the link below also now has a GarageBand project file. (For 2.x or later, also seems to work on GarageBand 1.x, but you have to set new instruments for all channels. Sorry, I haven't checked if it works on later versions, but I can't see why not.) I think I'll go fix one of my screwups now - extra dot in a filename.]
SpectateSwamp:I'll have to find another place to put the original videos.
MySpace?
(I know, fate not wished upon anybody, but there's a chance even Swampy can learn to use it.)

Agreed - I think that the worst Swampy could come up with would still be far better than the average MySpace page. I tend to want to gouge my eyes out if I accidentally end up on a MySpace page, and none of Swampy's pages have made me want to do that. (OK, source.txt came close...)

rc_pinchey:NONONONONONONO. NO. We DO NOT WANT a SpectateSwamp-created MySpace page. BAD. Sure we do. His presence there will only serve to hammer the "This place is so uncool" nail into the skulls of the all the sub-zero IQ kids/tweens/teens who still think MySpace is cool. They'll leave in droves, MySpace will die, and the world's biggest shrine to horrible page design will die and vanish.

I don't understand why anyone made MPS a moderator in the first place, but at least he hasn't figured out how to use the lock correctly yet.

TRWTF is I didn't realize MPS obviously used the "disallow replies" option for his post.... EDIT: Damnit, bstorer, you mocked me before I could correct myself!
