So I downloaded his desktop-thingie and tried it..... - Good going. I'll have to show you all the video possibilities. You'll change your mind. It's not crap. It's control of your data.

Of the 8 'articles' he has posted, 5 are direct discussions of the greatness of his search application.  If you read through them you will find numerous contridictions to the informaiton he has posted here on this and the alternate discussion board.  As I have said before, he is an evangelical preacher trying to turn us to his religion - make us his 'swampies'.  His other posts are interesting as well.  Although there are some some good points in them, his telling us not to edit video is truely a WTF.  That would be like us leaving all the bad, unusable code in the applicaiton rather than removing it!

Right when I got my camcorder I got some beautiful video of this mushroom shaped cloud..

    http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/clouds

On further examination in slow motion and close up. There were all kinds of fast moving objects moving in and out.

Further video captured some strange strange movements. I posted one where a sparrow saw one and ruffed up his feathers to scare it off.

Anyway its something to do when you have too much time on your hands.

A guy a worked with at Shaw Cable in North Vancouver. Martyn Stubbs became famous for downloading NASA transmissions and recording them. Everything was comming in on Shaws large dishes. Now that's interesting video that I'd like to see.

SpectateSwamp, do you have a learning disabillity that prevents you from making and using written material or something? Screen capures are neat when you are doing something interesting and complicated, but screncaptires of your search... For who? If it were simple to use it would not need any "video tutorials",if its not simple to use its useless as "tool to the masses"(well, this it is anyway, but for the sake of the argument...).

PS. Theres a thing called TRIPOD. It was invented some time ago. Perhaps you would consider using one when filming clouds and stuff? The camera shake is a disgrace. Not that I can understand why the fuck for would anybody waste 24-30fps to record something that a single photo would convey with much more detail...

So all know who I am:

Just noticed your sig "Desktop Search - Computing's EASY button"

So for fun, I googled Desktop Search.

    Here's my results: http://www.google.com/search?q=desktop+search&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1

Interestingly, you picked a generic enough name, that I can use google, windows, yahoo and several others, and think "That guy's right.  Desktop searching is easy" and never use your product.

It's similar to coming out with a new pair of jeans named "blue jeans" and your slogan something like "Blue jeans -- for the best fit"

But how can it be a search program if it can't search? That sorta makes it useless.

You should really write a program that can do search, if you want to call it a search.

Linux is not a code base. Or a distro. Or a kernel. It's an attitude. And it's not about Open Source. It's about a bunch of people who still think vi is a good config UI.

Actually my point was, if type in "Desktop Search" into google, the first page (and associated ads) do NOT point to your product.  They instead point to google, microsoft, yahoo and a few other desktop search products, that actually search my hard drive.

My point wasn't so much that I'd use Google et al.  But rather, that with your product's naming, it will be almost impossible for someone to find your application.  Because they'd have to weed through several pages of google to find what they're looking for.  And to be honest, if I don't find what I want on the first page of search results, I rarely look at page 2, and almost never beyond that.

Net Search and Desktop Search are from the opposite ends of the search spectrum.

Google (and yahoo!?) have desktop search programs that will search your computer the same way they search the net.  They are not opposite.  They use the same methodology.  In fact, all of the (FUCK SHIT deleting two characters with one strike of the backspace key again) data that yahoo searches for you has to be in one place.  They are not actually searching the net.  They are searching their index of what's on the net.  Similarly, you are searching your index of what's on your computer.  No difference.

    SpectateSwamp:
They are a long way from having a Real Desktop Search

No they're not.  They are, however, a long way from having a search that plays random videos.  Because who would want that?

IIRC, SpectateSwamp claimed somewhere in this thread that his Search would have no problems searching through concatenated Linux source tree. Let's see what happens:

    <sarcasm level="+INFINITY">

What a lousy Swamp video... What's with this high-fallutin' screen capture business? You should know by now that the only POSSIBLE way to make an example video is to stick your camcorder in front of the monitor, at extreme zoom and tilted to the perfect angle to maximize LCD moire effect. There's also no audio, so there's no possibility of unintelligble mumbling in the background.

And ... what's this? .gif? What the hell kind of video format is that. Everything has to be MPEG you know... only MPEG will properly show off all those spooks haunting the Swampie.

Who is "we"? I seriously doubt the plural.

I suppose there might be a Mrs. Swamp. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that there's an XY version of Mr. Swamp.

Must be horrible on Marital Relations Night though. "Just a minute, I know it's around here somewhere. Let me merge my appendages and run a search". "That's ok, dear, I'll just pop things up randomly until the right one shows up."

and now, if you'll excuse me, I think I need to wash my skull out with bleach.

Well, when you look at the place on Google Maps, you can see what the source of all the problems is... it's a Trailer Park... Explains a lot, it does.

This is the only location in town that has access to the McLeod river. I got video of the Ice flow flushing out into the Athabasca river (2 times)

On a hot summer day you will see a Thousand tubers comming down the river. (that lasts about 1 week)

That is pretty sweet - an embedded animated gif - never seen one use to quite this largest scale.

It's a gif? I couldn't tell, I have animation disabled. ender: using a gif is akin to taking SSDS seriously. Sane format, please.
