Not that you're good at either.

I could tell you software horror stories. The most elegant code that couldn't run. Written by a Mensa who refused to change it because it was soooo elegant

It was beautiful code. Just like you nerds want. A piece of spagett here and there and the program would probably have worked and done a fine job. But as it was She was soon sent packing. The replacement was much much better.

Don't you love how he still refuses to actually answer questions.

Does this mean SpectateSwamp fails the Turing test ?
What if I a bot randomly insults everyone and models a generally stupid and annoying person, how does it do in terms of the Turing test ?

I am not sure I see any traces of anything that might be considered a normal human in his postings... nor do I see anything that would make me feel comfortable calling it a machine.

To classify it as either would be an insult to said party.

Dude, serriously, could you spare us? And wtf is with the lame out of focus cam-corder/laptop screen capture? What is this, wooden table v 2.insane? A simple google search would reveal great opensource tools that help you do what you want, written by people who don't write shitty code. One of those is Cam Studio, a personal favorite of mine.  Then again, when you're SpectateSwamp, it's all about re-inventing the wheel right? Even if the wheel is a triangle made out of super glue....(pic for reference).

Re-inventing the wheel. I was using Vax search in the Mid 80's This program does a lot what that did, but has video music pics and a lot lot more. When You can look at the code and see what it does for video and music you'll love it. I'll show that next.

    Digital Video is the answer

    Locked Reply Contact

Now you can start it. How about trying the auto catalog for mpeg or mp3 files. Prompt #2 option "gf"

My next video will show you how to do both the gf and the random random playback with freeze frame

None of these features make it the killer app. But I still got lots more to show you about in this BAD code.

Who is brave enough to try it and join me on my side.???

I believe we have 7+ pages proving that point spread over several threads. Maybe we could *gasp* use his software to find all the references after manually doing so ourselves.

Yes! That is the answer! First we need to get Alex to export the whole site to a giant plan text file though!

No we don't, SpectateSearch has video search functions, all we need to do is rig up a machine to print each post individually, scan it in, OCR it, word-wrap it to 65 characters (because we forgot this the first time), print it out centered on a sheet of paper, attach that sheet of paper to a paper airplane, shoot said paper airplane with paper on top of wings over a wooden table which has a camera hanging over said table with a motion sensor to trigger the shutter. Then we can scan the negatives, invert color them, print them on photo paper, have a slide show using the photo paper generated thanks to our simian friends, and now we have a video that can be recorded for use in spectateSearch without the hassle of generating a text file. I mean it searches video, remember?

Whole post is has inverted orange-ness for the benefit of your eyes even though it should be.

Now you are starting to see the possibilities.

Getting a huge text file dump should be easy. On over 50 Telco and Cable conversions. they all came as text files. This system can randomly show you your mpeg files. Any software that can catalog the video to text... Wow I'd use that file and a little more formatting. Presto I have all the video cataloging done.

No. Text files are useless. You can use any text editor to do the same thing as what you are doing. And it would do it better.

Randomly displaying mpg files is not 'searching' and is NOT useful. Not to mention Windows Media Player can do the same thing. It is called shuffle. In fact I know of no video players that CANT do this.

    Alright... So?

So nothing, I'm just trying to figure out what you're getting from it because it isn't obvious.  Clearly you're not in it to "educate" him because he's clearly shown he can't be, arguing with him can't be that much fun either because he just keeps repeating the same stuff.  There's obviously some enjoyment to be had here that I am clearly missing out on.

Re-inventing the wheel. I was using Vax search in the Mid 80's This program does a lot what that did, but has video music pics and a lot lot more. When You can look at the code and see what it does for video and music you'll love it. I'll show that next.

Bah.  Let us know when it can do email.

The pig go. Go is to the fountain. The pig put foot. Grunt. Foot in what? ketchup. The dove fly. Fly is in sky. The dove drop something. The something on the pig. The pig disgusting... see bio for the earth shattering ending.

I should have known. I'd find the answer here.

    Glad we could help!

    SpectateSwamp:

The techies don't know dick about Desktop Search. (with the exception of 1 or TWO)

Neither are we interested too much...

    SpectateSwamp:

That's why I have never had any takers on a desktop search challenge.

    Sure that's the only reason?

Just to keep the discussion going: Why don't you open up an Open Source Community project at one of the well known places? Of course you'd need to download the Internet to your computer first, convert it into a text file and then use Desktop Search to find the URL, right? Well, maybe you can just video the Internet, play it backwards (in slow motion), and stop right at the frame that's right for you (make sure that the sound does not play forward while doing so - that might confuse you).

No... that would not work either. Guessing from the crap-quality proof-of-concept movie we've seen above, you would not be able to read the URL anyway... What can we do? How about that: Just do a Google sear... no. That one uses indexing and thus a product right out of hell...

Well I guess that the community will just have to make without Desktop Search... so far it has been doing quite well, don't you think?

I've could go both ways on it at this point. I'm thinking he could be a real person who's a decent programmer and generated/transformed that code from another language..I would also bet that the flow chart / program logic don't match up, but who the hell want's to find out. I think that's the point, a disgruntled programmer trying to get people to use/evaluate his brainfuck app.

On the other hand, the posts are all very similar in nature, but different tones on this board vs the other one he's on. Also, if it was a bot I'd expect him to be on more than a few boards. That's not to say a decent programmer couldn't create a configurable bot and set timing/post count/keyword triggers. The question is, why would someone write something like this*(assuming it's not generated) when EVERYONE knows google search. I don't understand it at all, but it's like watching a really long train wreck, it's hard to look away. I think if he's real, him and The PHP Master Architect should combine forces to create the next killer bit torrent or email client app.The Master could write his own open source multi threading library for VB...that doesn't actually use threads. Then SpectacteSwamp could make random calls to the lib all through to code, leveraging his search app and ability to display things randomly at his fingertips. Wow

If it is a program, then the programmer is surely just trying to see if he can make it pass as a person.  In which case he is obviously doing a pretty good job.

I suspect a HAL-like chatbot that cleverly uses forums as an evolutionary device. It posts randomly generated code, then uses programmer's responses as a fitness function...

Right on. Those that fight Open Source are ClueLess

    I have 10 to 20 thousand emails in my outmail.txt 709,000 lines

why oh why would I want them individually? All my email info is there, my inbox is clean only holding current unarchived email.

Some of you with 50,000 files. Good grief, no wonder you spend all day looking for filenames filenames filenames.

Merging makes filenames unimportant. It's the content you are always looking for. You don't go looking for a word file, thinking I'm going to re mail that to so and so. Doesn't happen. The formatting in word makes it pretty but reduces it's portability and sharability. DATA SHOULD BE SHARED

A half day at Spectate Swamp Shack and you'll see computing in a whole New (old) way.

Is there a way we can retroactively tag all of MPS's posts in this thread with the "feeding the troll" tag?  I think he'd be alright with that.  It might push it to the front page tag cloud.
