Apparently it only works for /me

 /me appears to have to start the line

Wow, the one and only relatively clever thing about this board software: extending "/me" to username in replies... I never thought I'd see the day...

Now, if the developers of this system could fix the fatal, fundamental idiocies of this neolithic system instead of adding worthless trinkets I'd for one feel less pain using it.
