    MySpace signup form

    The MySpace.com signup form was a bit broken for Australian residents... Can anyone see what's wrong with this?:

    And no, I'm not signing up to actually use the account, I'm just signing up to reserve a username, so nobody else uses my preferred username (Daniel15 was already taken) :P

    The US still thinks it's influence is expanding then...

    Quite a hobby you got there, signing up on web sites, reserving your username.

    Have you gone through many sites yet?

    This is bizarre.  It could be worse, though.  At least all eight valid options are there.

    It makes me wonder if they simply have a "master list" of states/provinces/prefectures/territories/etc that is always presented without reference to what country you select?  It would be a bit massive, but could explain the behaviour you are seeing.

    Nope, clearly that's not it -- there is no scrollbar to get to the other items that clearly would need to be on this list for that to be it.

    I can almost see an  "SELECT * FROM tbl4034lol ORDER BY anything " and then some insane logic to filter the results..

    Something that confuses aUStralia with US

    if  ( LOLtable.thing1.Contains("US") ) ...

    if  ( LOLtable.thing1.Contains("GERMANY") ) ...

    if  ( LOLtable.thing1.Contains("AUSTRALIA") ) ...

    GOD....

    Daniel15 because Daniel1 through Daniel14 were taken on the system where you first chose your nick, or because you're 15 years old?

    My crappy address code has something embarrassingly similar to this.  We just keep track of US states and Canadian provinces or parts or whatever. And they are all jumbled together in one table and will accept Ohio, Canada. At least when FedEx barfs on this I capture the error and present a nice form with a hint that their address is borked. My Country class even has a nasty little method called 'assertHasState' that checks for 'US' or 'CA'. yikes! It's been this way since the beginning and will probably be this way until the end - too many bigger fish to fry.

    It's ok, you can keep North Dakota. We're not too attached to it.

    No, it's obviously because he was born in 1915, duh.

    I don't usually go to sites to reserve my username... Just this one time

    I chose Daniel15 when I was signing up for an ISP in 2003. I wanted "Daniel", but it was already taken. I chose "Daniel15", and it's stuck

    Look at the JavaScript on their signup page, looks like results are filtered client-side :o (their JavaScript is almost as bad as their main CSS stylesheet!).
    Now that I notice this, it was probably just a JavaScript flaw or something... I went to the registration form again today, and it appears to be fixed.
