Got an email from ThinkGeek about my reward points.  Apparently I have enough point to get the following stuff "free":

Cool Shooters Ice Shot Glasses - free with 600 points + $20 
AK Ice Cube Tray - free with 600 points + $20 
Collapsible Shot Glass - free with 600 points + $20 
Original Gyroscope - free with 600 points + $20 
Butterfly Knife Styled Bottle Opener - free with 600 points + $20 
Pair of Giant Googly Eyes - free with 600 points + $20 
Butterfly Knife-Styled Pen - free with 700 points + $15

They used to specify free with your next purchase... apparently pre-2013, as my last geekpoints email from january says 'free with blah points + $some amount'. Since I mostly buy t-shirts from them, which are 15-20 bucks , that's what I still read that as (free with purchase).
Is this your first geek points email? Are you from space? Do they have things that are free without purchase there?

My copy of the email only includes the word purchase once, in the sentence:

We only ever email folks that requested them at some point
(either when you made a purchase on our site or if you entered
into one of our sweepstakes).

Their list of "free" stuff in the email I got would appear to indicate I have to pay $15 or $20 for each item I get "free".  If this is not their actual policy, perhaps they fixed the email mid-blast.

Maybe it was sent that way in the plaintext email? (I get the html, because I like the pretty pictures, and if I don't, gmail will turn them off for me.)
And now I feel old, since I checked my account. I've been ordering from them using this account since twenty-ought-two.

Yes, I get their plaintext emails.  My Thunderbird folder is already over 7GB, I don't want to think where it'd be if I got html emails from everyone instead.

I guess ThinkGeek isn't quite as greedy as their marketing would lead you to believe, their marketing dept. is just incompetent.

You want to complain about them leaving off the word "purchase" in an unimportant email that they have to maintain because less than 1% of their customers are luddites?

This reminds me of buying art from Leonid Afremov.  Now, don't get me wrong - the guy's a fantastic artist and sells at prices I certainly can't complain about - most artists of his caliber charge far more. I have several pieces of art by him and love them.  But some of his "special deal" emails are just funny:

Email body: "189$ shipping and handling"
