Remember that feature CodeSOD from a few days ago, where I subtely openly showed my utter disdain for real estate agent's self-absorbed ludditish attitude towards technology? It certinaly wouldn't have any basis in personal experience, or even reality, right? Hey, check it out! My next door neighbour just put a For Sale sign on his house. Well, I'm always curious what the current market rate is for houses in the area. Let's check out MLS and see what it's listed for. Hmm, not on MLS. ok. Let's check ReMax's website directly, they're pretty good about having listings--- no, not there either, huh? Okay, fine, let's check out the for sale sign. Creepy self absorbed picture of the agent himself, check. Huge-ass "FOR SALE", indicating that the house is, indeed, currently being solicted for sale. Right. Oh-- there's an URL on the sign. Cool, that must mean that the real estate agent has a website, with listings and prices and open house times and all the other goodies associated with an information distribution point in this, The Cyber Age. Or, we can have this:
http://www.thebrianpersaudteam.com/ Effectively parked domain? Check. 1.8MB background image? Check. The use of the word "My"? Check. Registered through GoDaddy? Check. Absolutely no information whatsoever? Check. All that effectively on a live, production website, with the URL active and actively advertised? Checkity McCheck Checkson (esquire)

Re: Real Informative Website
I think that probably is all the information you require about the estate agent, no?

What's wrong with GoDaddy? Unless, you're talking about that stupid thing in the lower-right corner. But, that's not GoDaddy's fault, that's Geocity's fault for closing.

I like that background though.
BTW, maybe, just maybe, you have some sort of trauma caused by real state agents, and now you have your own vendetta against them.

What do you mean by "effectively parked domain"?

Re: Real Informative Website
Medinoc: What do you mean by "effectively parked domain"? A parked domain would resolve to a simple page saying "Yo, man, this is registered but like, just resting its eyes. Nothing to see." This domain resolves to a simple page saying "Yo, man, this is registered but like there's totally no content yet. Nothing to see." Not under construction. Not a simple, static page saying "Content coming", or "here's my listings and phone #". It's the default CMS page, meaning they went to the effort of registering the page and having a CMS installed-- but then just stopped. Ah, fuck it, they said. Who would go to this page anyways. It's not like it's printed in large font on every For Sale sign we put up, implying there will be actual information here.

I'll refrain from commenting on the visual aspect, but will just point out that there's no reason for it to be a 1.8MB uncompressed image. ubersoldat:

What's wrong with GoDaddy? Unless, you're talking about that stupid thing in the lower-right corner. But, that's not GoDaddy's fault, that's Geocity's fault for closing. What's not wrong with GoDaddy? They're essentially the EA of the Web hosting industry.

You mean, they do a decent job, but everyone hates them for some reason?

I could go over any number of examples of "some reason"s that you could easily find with a simple Google search or two, but really the only thing you need to know about them to get a good handle on their character is that they are a Web-hosting company, and they came out in actve and voiciferous support of SOPA.

Fortunately they also provide several handy buttons so that you can share this non-site with others. Tell all your friends. Tell the whole world!

Their customer care, for starters. I noticed that the e-mail forwarding I used for my domain kept getting e-mails blocked. Turns outthey have a spam filter, which doesn't work particularly well (Yahoo being considered a source of constant spam, even though I'm just on a few groups there), and which doesn't have an obvious "off" switch either. Since it's been a few years, the details are a bit sketchy, but in the end I decide to call their service number (international call, obviously) and basically get admonished for being a moron, that I want to get rid of their crappy, not-working spam filter. Not a problem: I took my domains to their competitors (Scout web solutions). Bunch of wankers.

Their support for SOPA and their subsequent faux-repeal of that support.
3 logicians go into a bar.; the barman says ‘Would you all like a drink?’. The first says 'I’m not sure', the second says 'I’m not sure', and the third says 'Yes'.

Not to be forgotten: "website shows completely blank page without javascript enabled - CHECK!" "For a background image - CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEECK!!!!"
I just happen to have a very low fault-tolerance for incompetence

TehFreek: Fortunately they also provide several handy buttons so that you can share this non-site with others. Tell all your friends. Tell the whole world! I seriously think we should have a Daily WTF account on each social site whose only purpose for existence is to click on every awful social link it can find. It'd be like if the creepy guy kinda slid up next to a girl in a bar, muttering softly about "you know you wanna see it" while trying to lick her ear-- and in response she got a live stream of his junk onto every jumbotron in the world, along with an informative caption about its failings and shortcomings, plus his face and phone number for comments. Share! Share! Share!

Re: Real Informative Website
Last month I went to this bar/restaurant, they had printed on the back cover of their menu their address, phone number, open hours, and website address. And by "website address" I mean a single line saying "website under construction". The menu didn't have an appearance of being recent, so possibly the site is already online -- and possibly without the address, phone number and open hours information, if you consider other restaurant websites I've seen.
