You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

  • Sharing Knowledge has got to be Simple

Otherwise it is just another barrier to knowledge.

SSDS has become easier and easier. Master and Apprentice is the best knowledge sharing method but this is a close 2nd. The computer has some advantages in that the knowledge can be shared forever; repeatedly; randomly and around the clock. Learners today are so fortunate.

Over 2500 posts. Spooky. I have over 2500 videos on youtube. The last being 216 videos done at last weeks Ironman (bike section)

    http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4B3E43B98D47FE92&feature=view_all

It took over a week to upload the 1 hr and 50+ minutes (6.2 GB) of action. The videos are distributed on DVD with TV player and Windows PC capabilities.

  • @SpectateSwamp said:

Now if only there was some device dedicated to playing DVDs directly to TV screens.

That would make it even simpler!

I don't know what's the bigger WTF. That you snipped up 1:50h into 216 videos or that 6.2GB took you over a week to upload. You must have been uploading at around 10 Kilobytes per second.

You know that YouTube accepts videos of arbitrary length now?

  • Knowledge shouldn't be long and drug out

    Thanks for sharing DerulaSwamp.

Yup I do know that youtube accepts longer videos. With the ironman there were lots of breaks between some of the riders so I would shut off recording. Anyway I seldom watch youtube videos that are more than 3 minutes long myself. Knowledge should be short and to the point. Like this thread.

When uploading these 200+ videos there would have been at least 10% of them that failed because of communication problems; if I was sending 1 huge file I'm sure it wouldn't have been as simple but maybe not. It isn't a big thing doing the video uploads. I was in my favorite coffee shop chatting up people.

Any movie of that length (1hr 50Min) would have many more short segments. Many more.

What's your YouTube channel and video count. Come on share a little more...

Below is the instructions on how to share video so others can see the most interesting parts in slow motion. MotorCycle back flip. SkateBoard tricks. Golf Swing and of course Faster Than Sight objects.

    http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/slomo_demo.htm

Thanks to this never ending thread the program has gotten better and better. So be brave and down load the very short video files at the beginning as a test. Then the search.exe and MPEG_VIDEOSmix.txt timeline control file. Once you have those working then download the rest of the files that have the FTS objects to your USB stick. Then you can see these objects as well or better than me (if you have a large screen TV hooked to your computer)

By looking at the MPEG_VIDEOSmix.txt you'll quickly see how the playback is controlled and hope upon hope maybe shoot some of your own video.

Sometimes Sharing Video knowledge can be hard but I'll keep trying.

In the next day or two I'll add some of the other FTS videos. Cuz I love you.

Here is the Screen reshoot from the first 10 minutes of the playback.

  • When you can catalog video like this - you are the best

    http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/search.exe

Grrrreeat. Just put the above program on a USB stick. Then some of your own mpg videos there. Rename it to catmydrive.exe and run it.

It will do an auto catalog. Then rename another copy to sequential.exe and run that. The videos will run in order. If you have a look at MPEG_VIDEOSmix.txt on my site you will see how the timeline playback works.

    http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/MPEG_VIDEOSmix.txt

Rename another one to catmydrivegolf.exe and run that on the USB stick and you will see how it does a catalog for golf video. Golf video is: start recording when they address the ball and stop right after the swing. These very short clips are played then it starts 6 seconds from the end of the video and when there is 3 seconds left it switches to slow motion for the swing.

I have never ever wrote a program that intentionally destroyed data. Real programmers protect your data. With this app you can keep your data forever.

  • Shocked. Shocked and horrified. The confession of a Linux SSDS user.

It all blew up in my face. It was supposed to be a bad joke. I would download the binary and then post that it didn't work.
But I was wrong. I was so wrong. What follows is what actually happened (edited slightly for readability).

    scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ wget http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/search.exe
    2012-11-10 13:14:37 (376 KB/s) - `search.exe' saved [554496/554496]

    scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ chmod +x ./search.exe
    scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ ./search.exe
err:module:import_dll Library MSVBVM50.DLL (which is needed by L"Z:\\home\\scottl\\bin\\search.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\home\\scottl\\bin\\search.exe" failed, status c0000135

At this point I should explain that I've got the latest version of Wine installed on this Linux box. To carry the joke to its logical conclusion, I downloaded and installed the dll.

    scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ mv ~/Downloads/msvbvm50.dll ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/

    Then I ran it again.

    scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ ./search.exe

This time it ran. SSDS freakin' runs under Wine. I can't believe it. When I have time I'm going to see how much of this works under Wine.

  • Thanks. I don't have or use Linux. It's great to know that it runs.

Be prepared to see those FTS objects. Wine and SSDS will show you weird stuff.

    Thanks again GazzonyxSwamp.

http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/msvbvm50.dll  Sometimes you don't need it.

I always include the above dll when I burn a DVD for windows.

I have smartened up a bit over time. Now I create TV - DVD format videos as well as the PC version

http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/autorun.inf I include this autorun so the PC DVD's auto start.

You are almost there and very brave I might add.  Exploring the unknown. What fun. We should start awarding trophies for those who capture the best FTS videos.

Thanks for the heads up CodeSimianSwamp

Being able to attach large text video is more important than text for pictures. Enabling people to put those short clips in context. Without it the relevance of the video clip becomes lost.

  • @SpectateSwamp said:

Well, considering that pretty much your entire HTML source was an unterminated comment, browsers have about 2 choices:

    • Assume you meant what you said ("This is a real comment that I forgot to end") and ignore the contents of the comment (Firefox and Chrome)
    • Try to guess what you meant ("Oops, I accidentally commented everything out by removing a comment terminator"), and act as if you had never started the comment in the first place (Internet Explorer)

It has nothing to do with being "know-it-alls". It's more like: "This shit doesn't make sense. What's the best way to interpret it?" But by all means, blame your own communication problems on everyone else. Funny how you have similar issues being understood in both HTML and English, eh Swampie?

  • Too bad for FireFox and Chrome

Look buddy, your original page source looked something like this before you fixed it (the exact "saved-from URL" may have been different):
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
    <font color="#FF0000"><!-- saved from url=(0057)http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/slomo_demo.htm </font>

    <META name=GENERATOR content="MSHTML 9.00.8112.16455"></HEAD>
    <BODY bgColor=#ffffff>
Note the missing end of comment marker ("-->") on the "saved from url" line.  Because that marker was missing, the entire page was a comment.

I'm sincerely impressed that you actually listened to someone else and fixed it, but please stop blaming your problems on everyone else.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDQ3uZg9c9Y

Screen reshoots when I have the camcorder on auto is a bit of a problem as you can see in the above video.

The solution is to do what the 2nd_bestest program logic does. SSDS may work right now, I don't know but will test it tonight.

Ie show a bitmap picture then print the large font (48 point) text on top of that. Just like 2nd_bestest does. If there are any problems with that; I'll fix 'em.

When there is something for the camcorder to focus on (other than a black screen) then the print display won't be a problem.

Not having the camcorder on auto is an option but not one that I like.
I don't get how this is to do with the iPad? Am I missing
      something?
So we are not really talking about the "Best Video Editing App" Maybe 2nd or 3rd
     best video editing app.

Are all Mac affectionatoes this closed minded. They don't want any knowledge that is counter to their beliefs.

Anyone else thinking this is comedy GOLD? Also, SpectateSwamp finally confirmed as a troll? I mean, not even a stoned nutter would actually post in an Apple fan forum about a Windows-only app, and after their baffled reaction call them closed-minded. The funniest thing is that he's ultimately RIGHT, but for all the wrong reasons.

    Okay, okay. Consider the options:

    • Spectate expects them to love SSDS so much that they start porting it to MacOS / iOS, without ever having used it themselves.
    • Spectate expects them to give Windows a try to test out SSDS, but her refusal to do that is what he considers closed-mindedness.
    • Spectate is well aware of the situation and knows of how hilarious is is to call people closed-minded for not expanding their non-SSDS-related topic to SSDS because he thinks it's a good program.

Yeah, I know, Spectate, trolls need their believability and so you're not blowing cover, but since you now started with obvious irony, you might as well just come out and admit to us that that whole thing is a huge set-up joke... I mean, we're your main audience, and your friends, you can tell us... we won't tell anyone!

  • Not many forums left where I'm not Banned

the medicine stonesPeople brag and brag about various "video organizers" and "video editing" apps and no ban. When I trump them with SSDS they get all pissy and ban me. Calling it SPAM. It is all about the registrations and has always been.

It's almost not right to love an app this much...

A friend (I do have some) is trying to get it to run on a MAC.

Now I got to see about stopping the "end of the world" stuff on the 21st
