I recently saw a comedian joking about how the KKK has a website... so I decided to check it out. I've never, in my whole life, seen a website which fails so spectacularly in so many browsers. At points, there are literally 4 or 5 sections of text and images overlayed one another. Note: The distorted text is not a result of the screencaps; It's distorted on the page too.

It seems to be usable (though still quite ugly) in IE7 on Windows. Nothing else seems to support the site.

 I like the sidebar - "Support our troops! Bring them home!" There are people in my college town with those bumper stickers, but I doubt they agree on much else!

As well as needing quirks mode to accept unitless numbers (which they all do in quirks mode), the site expects browsers to implement an IE 5 quirk in quirks mode. They have to treat height as min-height. IE 6-8 and Opera implement this quirk. Firefox and Safari(/Chrome) do not. Therefore a large part of the page content suffers from overlaps in FF/Saf.

The markup also contains a vast number of nesting errors, with CENTER tags scattered at various points throughout a table, in places where they are not allowed, such as between <table> and <tr> tags. This does not cause any major problems, since it seems browsers all manage to deal with it, but the coders of this site need to grow up a decade (in more ways than one).

 Given the subject matter I'd be in favor of defacing this site, but I don't think there's any way of doing that without actually improving it.

Worse than improving it - any time a hate group gets any sort of direct attention on the internet every other hate group on the Internet has to do a write up on it and link to it.  And if you think about - they have nothing else going on in their lives.  

 It's not like their social philosophies are subject to any sort of evolution.  If you have 'mud' in your blood then Jesus hates you - not a whole lotta room for expansion there.

I like how Germany has now started to filter the Internet. You'ld think "oh great, they're finally filtering those nazi sites". But no, they filter CP. Why? Because that obviously helps victims of CP. I'm not sure how, but if they say so, it must be true.

Also, they are discussing to filter "killer game websites". You know, because "killer games" the main cause of killing sprees, after all (both contain the word "kill", so it must be true!).

Well, it does.  Without a market for child pornography, less would be made.  And child pornography isn't free speech and is illegal in any sane country.  Of course, "filtering" for it is a potential mine field.  I'd also rather not have the government able to censor any speech on the Internet.  Law enforcement should search out child pornography and those who make and distribute it and then shut them down, preferably with a bullet.

Yeah, but at least it's not as bad as the rest of Europe.  IIRC, Germany is the only country in Europe where less than 10% of the population favors abolishing Israel.

It's weird, kkk.com and kukluxklan.bz both work, but kkk.bz will not resolve:

The government has backed down on mandatory web filtering. Besides, I have the proposed block list (from wikileaks) and "kkk" does not register.

I agree with most of that. Also, I'm not quite sure about the first point. For once, there's always Tor, and I'ld bet most of those who get their stuff from the Internet already use it. Next, I don't think that market is too much driven by demand. If you're perv, you're a perv. Censorship won't stop you from abusing children, just maybe you'll think twice before recording it and publishing it in the Internet. Thus, presence on the web might get somewhat limited, but not the problem itself. True, it might reduce the problem by a tiny bit, but only like a drop of water on a hot stone.

Because then the excuse to censor the Internet goes away - and we know that child pornography is just a convenient excuse to get the infrastructure in place, so that it can later be used for other things.

10 years back there was a KKK/Nazi rally in Pittsburgh, Pa. I and about 5000 of my closest friends went along to see what it was all about and deride the stupid participants. The set up was that all spectators were kept behind a 6'6" wire fence, while the rally participants (about 10-15 of them) were allowed to march freely on the street, but at a distance that was deemed safe from anything thrown from the crowd. There were cops and other security people all over the place to ensure the peace was kept. However the authorities did make a mistake in their calculations - I saw some guy hurl a rock that pretty well covered the full distance between us and them.

However I almost couldn't stop laughing when I saw the participants in their Nazi regalia when they saluted the Nazi flag, as about half of them used their left arm and the other half used their right arm. Apparently knowing which arm to use to salute wasn't a part of their hate training.

The other thing that had me laughing was that the the KKK leader who was giving the speeches was using an amplifier/speaker set that was no more that 1' on a side - the sort of thing that a busker/street performer would use and an epic fail when trying to address a huge crowd from across the street. It was almost cranked up to 11, so with the pathetic volume and huge amount of distortion I never actually got to hear what the KKK was on about. So once again they demonstrated their intelligence.
